Other Examples of Indicators

Gender-related Development Index

The Gender-related Development Index (GDI) captures inequalities between women and men. GDI is simply the HDI adjusted downward for gender inequality. The greater a country's gender disparity in basic human development, the lower is its GDI compared with its HDI.

Gender Empowerment Measure

The Gender Empowerment Measure (GEM) reveals whether women take an active part in economic and political life. In contrast with the GDI, it shows inequality in opportunities in selected areas of economic and political participation and decision-making by tracking the percentages of women in parliament, among legislators, seniors officials, managers and professional workers as well as the gender disparity in earned income.
