Four Areas of Dynamic Conditions of Action

The strategy of a peasant household is to strive for a balance between a case-by-case adaptation of the actions to given conditions and their modification in order to stabilise (some) conditions of action.

We can group the dynamic conditions of actions that are particularly important for the modification and transformation both of strategies of peasant actors and of the characteristics of peasant societies under the following four headings:

  1. Demographic changes
  2. Changes in market conditions
  3. Changes in political frame conditions
  4. Changes in natural resources
